The range of options available to consumers in interior design seems unlimited these days, especially on the internet. Everyone has a vision of their dream home and with the wide variety of trendy design furniture available at Fashion for Home; accomplishing this dream home may now ever be easier than before.

The three most important rooms to decorate for both visual appeal and comfort are the living room, bedroom and home study. These rooms usually require very different things, so it is important to first browse the web for ideas on what kind of mood you wish to create in each room before you buy anything that might in the end not be so suitable.

A living room can be made unique by anyone who has an eye for design and a bit of initiative. Sometimes you don’t immediately get the look you want but that’s what interior design is all about; trial and error. The central piece of furniture required is of course the couch. With the many choices available, such as the Paula Leather 2-Seat Sofa or the Cardini Due Sleeper Sofa, you can achieve any style you want. Or even look at this quirky bean bag if you wish to create more of a playful atmosphere in your living room.

With the addition of a beautiful leather armchair and a coffee table, the key furniture pieces of the living room are nearly complete. All you are required to do is add the minor accessories such as lamps, decorative art and most importantly – a TV!

The bedroom is just as important, especially when choosing a bed. Fashion for Home offers an attractive selection of designer beds, dressers and further accessories for all buyers interested in visualizing their new bedroom.

Then, the home office should reflect the individual’s read and work habits. From modern to classic, whether you are an artist, businessman or scientist, the options you choose will help set up your own space in which you can work in style. Check out some of these fashionable yet practical desks:

Your design options are unlimited and can give all of us the dream home we’ve always wanted.

It can be difficult to know what to look for when choosing dining room sets because you will no doubt be striving to balance creating the right ambience with practicality. There are a number of factors that you will need to take into account to do so.

One of the first things to consider is the intended use of your dining room set. Will it predominantly be for small family meals or larger formal gatherings for friends? If the maximum number of people you can envisage is four then a small set may well suffice. If numbers are likely to vary then you may want to consider a table that can expand to allow for a greater number of place settings.

The amount of space that you have in the room is clearly important. If the set is to be in the kitchen then you will want to make sure that you will still have adequate room in which to cook, open cupboards, access the oven and so forth.

If it is to live in the dining room, you will need to allow for space in which to draw the chairs back from the table and to balance size and utility with the room in order to avoid accidentally creating a cramped feeling.

If you don’t have much available space, you may wish to consider benches rather than chairs as these can be tucked under the table when not in use. A breakfast bar or butterfly dining set is also an option. Conversely, if you have a large room to fill, you may also want to consider other items of furniture that match your table and chairs, such as a sideboard or display unit.

The style of the room and your wider decor choices also matter. A contemporary glass table may be at odds in a traditional kitchen, whilst a set with cream chairs could prove to be rather impractical if you have small children. You should also think about the shape of the set with regard to the room in question: would a rectangular or oval table fit best?

As your dining area is routinely the focal point of the home, both for day-to-day meals and on formal occasions such as Christmas, your dining room set thus needs to complement your lifestyle. Buying the right furniture and accessories is a long term investment. A carefully chosen set will bring a great deal of pleasure for many years to come.

Well it seems that businesses in London and the surrounding areas have begun to panic over how they will keep productivity up during the Olympics. There will be obvious hurdles to overcome, including difficulty getting to the office. As such quite a few companies are preparing to allow their employees to work from their homes. And while that might sound wonderful to some, and horrid to others, the main thing becomes the fact that people without home offices will suddenly be in need of them. And chances are they will not be of interest once the Olympics have ended to those homeowners.

So what’s an employee to do? Well first off, celebrate the fact that you can save some money not using transportation to an from work, along with buying lunches out, or those expensive café coffees for a while. Then remember to keep things simple when it comes to the set up, as you don’t want to spend all the loot you are saving on creating a workspace. But, and this is a really important but, don’t make it so basic that you dread heading to it each morning.

You can make a desk out of two short filing cabinets, and a piece of wood. Then, once you return to work you can put the cabinets to good use for your home accounts and budget materials. Or, you can buy a very inexpensive plastic outdoor table and cover it with a full length table cloth. Just snag a chair from your kitchen, or dinning room table. But don’t stop there, put some picture that you like around you and if you fancy it listen to music you like all day long. Sounding pretty good this work from home stint ain’t it.

For those searching for ideas on how to organise a garage, and who have some floor space to work with here’s a tip. Instead of buying those kind of feminine looking plastic containers to house your tools, and workspace equipment, go for galvanised bins. They look great, very masculine, and hold a tremendous amount of stuff. Plus, you just lift the lid to peer into it and see what’s inside should you forget. If you are going to be using several of these, then labelling them might assist you, so that you don’t have to pull the tops off at all.

These are superb for items that you think may be too heavy to hang on the wall, or are too obtrusive in shape or size to leave in sight. If you want to make things more unique you can always paint them with your favourite sports team colours. It’s a great place to decorate as you wish, and to do so freely. That said, most women I know love these galvanised cans as well, so any female counterparts will probably agree that they look fantastic. Perhaps though, you would prefer the room to refrain from being agreeable with a partners taste, then you might want to rethink this storage option. If you grow tired of them, or decide to do a “deep” clean of the garage, and thus no longer need the storage they work just as well in the garden. This is a good investment all around.

Well before you can achieve perfect lighting you must get a handle on basic lighting terms and ideas. If you are reading this, it says that you are aware of the fact that lighting is important in a home, and it is not simply something to be left till last as an after thought. It rivals the selection of paint colours for the walls, and the process involved in choosing your furnishings. Without the proper lighting you are not doing your house and its décor any favours, in fact you might be detracting from it.

To become well acquainted with what your abode calls for lighting wise, assess what would be involved to get a great set up, and where your natural light sources are located. For instance, the kitchen needs to be more brightly lit than your bedroom, as you will be doing tasks like cutting foods, reading recipes, and cooking with hot surfaces and utensils. Should you need such lighting in a bedroom, it can be addressed with side table lamps, and dimmer switches.

As for natural light, the angle it comes from will impact the sort of light you get. So, determine if you are blessed or burdened with north, south east or west facing light. Then you will be clued into if you need special lights to combat glare, or warm the environment up at certain times of the day.

It need not be cold outside for a cup of tea, or coffee to be well received. They warm us from within, and leave us feeling all the cosier for it. But that kitchen coffee maker, or tea kettle are not magical, and thus require upkeep from time to time. Do you know how to clean them properly?

Well, if not, let me advise you on the tea kettle, and even if you think you do, perhaps you will like this approach better than the one you already use. Get rid of those annoying, and sometimes revolting mineral deposits with this trick. Just boil half white wine vinegar with half water in the kettle. Take it off the heat and leave to sit for a few hours, and then pour out the brew and rinse thoroughly.

Scrub the exterior of the kettle with a gentle sponge and rinse. Then do the same to the inside. There you have it, a kettle fit for a king, or at least one to make you feel a tad more like a queen.

About once a year I hear my neighbours have the same conversation, and by calling it a conversation I am putting it politely. It starts with the wife saying she is going to start looking at new homes for sale and is followed by her explanation. Now, it is not that she truly wants to move to a new house, this is her way of making a point. Apparently though it is a point that only seems to have any effect on her husband for a few weeks.

This discussion is normally spurred by an event, like she can’t open the garage door because it is jam-packed. I suppose I should act like I’m not a bit of an eavesdropper, but I am, and this reoccurring dialogue makes me chuckle. Plus, in my defence, they do have it out in the front garden for all to hear, so unless I seek refuge inside I am bound to hear it.

Theirs is an age old problem, the man’s space is unkempt. This upsets the wife to no end because it is unattractive, inconvenient, and at times dangerous. But, it makes me snicker because there is a remedy. As it is, the husband does an overhaul of the garage in response to his wife’s harsh words. But, he does the clean up so that it leaves him questioning where the materials he needs are, and as such everything is out and messy in no time at all.

So, as much as I find it funny that he gets a regular reaming, I am going to show him how to make changes in the garage that will be permanent. Advise him as to how to organise the space so it is functional. Probably put up cabinets, and make a proper worktable with compartments. Then, label drawers and any other containers clearly. Follow this up by hanging tools so they are out of reach of small children, and not blocking the walkway.

The only thing I haven’t figured out is how to avoid them realising I have heard the bickering. I imagine there is talk of finding salvation in new build homes all across the land. And while a new home can provide you with a new leaf, without the proper set up the same thing is destined to happen again. So, if the neighbours are ever to move, he had better know what not to do in the new garage.

The unexpected has a funny way of rearing its head at undesirable times. A burst pipe just before you leave for work, a power-cut in the middle of the night or a collapsing shelf will only hinder you if you’re not equipped. As they say, preparation is everything.

Hiring a professional is usually one’s initial reaction when handy work is required. However, you don’t need this article to tell you how expensive that can be. So here’s a checklist of tools to ensure that you have everything you need for those surprise DIY moments:

Swiss Army Knife

While this little tool may not seem like the obvious answer to many household questions – it’s an understated device that can go a long way. There are various models of Swiss Army knives available that offer different tools – most commonly including: a blade, tweezers, toothpick, corkscrew, can opener, slotted/flat-head screwdriver, file, scissors, saw, magnifying glass, and a ballpoint pen for when all else fails and you need to write down the phone number of a plumber.

Torch

A very obvious one – but by ensuring that your torch always has full batteries, power-cuts will be nothing to fear, and every nook and cranny can be uncovered with the press of a button. At the very least, it will help you uncover the shelf bracket that fell behind the sofa during your DIY shelf building mission.

Drill

Drills come in many different shapes and sizes – and cover a multitude of needs. For the crème de le crème of drills, look no further than the Special Direct System Drill (SDS). The SDS is extremely powerful, perfect for heavy duty jobs, and offers three functions: normal drill, hammer action and chisel.

Screwdriver

Small, versatile and great for the odd jobs around the house, screwdrivers perfect for a multitude of household jobs. Alternatively, you could invest in a powered screwdriver to do all the hard work for you. The higher the voltage the more power you’ll get out of it. For a great auto-feed screwdriver, try Silverline power tools.

Sander

A sander is the perfect tool to smooth surfaces and remove paint and rust. For a sander to rival all other sanders, try one with a belt – which has a continuous roll of sand paper for sanding larger surfaces.

Power Tools

There’s nothing wrong with being a bit dramatic sometimes – and there’s no better way to do so than by unleashing a power tool to get the job done whilst intriguing the neighbours. As seen above, many tools come with the option of a power upgrade – so you can use more force and expel less energy. For a safe bet, go for Bosch power tools, as Bosch is a very well-established supplier of power tools.

Plumbing Tools

In some instances, the Swiss Army Knife just won’t suffice. When it comes to plumbing emergencies, certain, more specialised tools are often required. Luckily, drain and pipe cleaning tools, wrenches and pipe cutters come at a very low price.

Not only is doing it yourself a cheaper option, but self-sufficiency offers a unique sense of achievement. By investing in your own tools, you can save the time, cups of tea, money and awkward small talk that come with professional help.

There is often a dilemma that arises with the home office arrangement. Frequently, space is at a premium, and sections of it, like a closet are shared for multiple purposes. While we would love to be able to designate all territory found within the home office, well office space, many of us are not so lucky.

But, do not get down about it, get smart about it. While you may need to acquiesce to allowing the rod in the closet to hang the families winter coats, and accessories, the bottom section is free and clear, so claim it. As the coats dangle above, a very useful area for office supplies can be created. This will allow you to conceal the extra packs of printer paper, stationary, business cards, and other boxes of supplies.

To this correctly, do not just plop the boxes directly on to the floor, and then stack others on top. Place shelves (temporary or permanent) in this section, and keep all materials off the ground. This will be much more visually appealing, and though it is not completely dedicated to the office, the portion that is still deserves to be orderly and structured appropriately.

Very often, holiday decorations are housed in the garage, and are quite frankly a mess. The way that you deposit those lights and ornaments after the holiday season has come to a close is what you are faced with the next year. If you do things properly when you put them away, you will be pleased as punch with the idea of pulling them all out again when the time comes.

Sting lights are a common problem, as they get tossed in a pile, or shoved in a large mass out of sight somewhere. When you realise how easy it can be to put them away in a totally organised, respectable fashion you are going to shake your head at all the time you wasted untangling them year after year. Measure out the dimensions of the container and then cut sections of cardboard slightly smalle to be placed inside. Wrap you string lights around the cardboard, leaving space in between each line, and then store away. If you do it well, you may never need to create this set up again. Imagine that, a way to organise that will last.
